Lucy and Yak

How are Lucy and Yak clothes different when compared to other brands?

Lucy and Yak specialize in dungarees made from ethical and sustainable resources, however, the also sell other clothing and accessories. They have high standards when choosing their fabrics, therefore their consumers can expect high quality products that were made in good conditions.

How do Lucy and Yak remain innovative and on trend?

The whole Lucy and Yak business structure is innovative. They have managed to create a brand that has high standards, is Eco friendly and also ethical, all while being affordable.

Millennial's want to buy from good hearted brands, however sometimes they struggle doing so due to the unaffordable prices of sustainable brands.

In addition, Lucy and Yak sells nice looking clothes that millennial's want to wear, unlike their sustainable competitors. This can be deemed as innovative thinking.

What innovative fabrics are Lucy and Yak using in their clothing?

Lucy and Yak use recycled polyester to make some of their outerwear. The fabric is made from recycled plastic bottles. “The plastic is cleaned, heated, passed through a spinneret, wound up and then crimped” (Lucy and Yak, 2018). This process results in a fluffy fabric. Although there are great advantages to using recycled plastic in fashion, there is also a downside to it because “every time a polyester garment is washed it sheds microfibers”. The microfibers then end up in the planets water system. As a way to overcome this, Lucy and Yak have chosen to use this sort of fabric to make outerwear clothing such as their Rhoden Jacket (see figure 1), because it needs less washing. This shows innovative thinking by reusing materials that are already on the planet as well as forward thinking by the brand as this is a solution that re-purposes plastic in a less harmful way.
